The long-term reliability and uptime of an excavator depend heavily on the systematic maintenance of its five core wear parts. Focusing on the following key points can effectively prevent faults and control costs.

1. Track Assembly (the primary wear core of the travel system)

Maintenance Focus:

  • Tension adjustment: Inspect and adjust the tension regularly per the manual specifications. Excessive looseness causes derailment and slapping, while over-tightening accelerates wear and increases fuel consumption.

  • Foreign object removal: Timely clear stones, steel bars and other debris entangled in the track links to prevent abnormal stress concentration.

  • Alignment check for the "Three Wheels and One Track": Regularly inspect if the idler wheels, track rollers, top rollers and the track have even wear—uneven wear is a warning sign of travel frame deformation or improper installation.

Key Tip:

Avoid prolonged one-sided steering on hard surfaces, as this inflicts the most damage to the track.

2. Bucket Teeth & Cutting Edges (direct working components)

Maintenance Focus:

  • Wear limit management: Never use bucket teeth that exceed the wear limit, as this drastically increases the stress on the arm and bucket, leading to cracking of the base material.

  • Symmetrical replacement: Replace bucket teeth and side teeth in pairs to maintain balanced digging resistance and protect the bucket structure.

  • Bolt torque tightening: Regularly inspect and fasten the mounting bolts to prevent tooth adapter wear caused by loosening.

Key Tip:

Selecting the appropriate tooth type (e.g., penetration teeth, rock teeth) based on working conditions such as soil and rock is the most cost-effective maintenance measure.

3. Hydraulic Oil & Filters (the "blood" and "kidneys" of the hydraulic system)

Maintenance Focus:

  • Strict oil change intervals: Replace hydraulic oil according to operating hours or oil analysis results. Oil contaminated with water, emulsified or severely deteriorated must be replaced immediately.

  • Synchronous filter replacement: All hydraulic filters (suction, return, pilot) must be replaced at the same time as the hydraulic oil.

  • Maintain cleanliness: Strictly prevent dust and moisture from entering the system during oil refueling and inspection.

Key Tip:

Oil temperature is the lifeline of the hydraulic system. Sustained temperatures above 85°C will cause accelerated deterioration of oil and seals— the root cause of overheating must be identified and resolved promptly.

4. Gear Oil for Swing & Travel Reducers (the most overlooked "joint fluid")

Maintenance Focus:

  • Advance the initial oil change: For new machines or those after an overhaul, shorten the initial oil change interval to half the specified time (e.g., 500 operating hours) to drain metal shavings from initial wear.

  • Regular oil level and condition inspection: Check the oil level via the oil level plug. If the oil is cloudy, contains metal shavings or is emulsified, identify the cause and replace the oil immediately.

  • Use specified viscosity oil: Strictly use the correctly graded gear oil in accordance with climatic conditions.

Key Tip:

Oil seal leakage in swing reducers is a common fault. Early detection and repair can avoid costly damage to bearings and gears.

5. Cylinder Rods & Oil Seals (critical seals for actuation)

Maintenance Focus:

  • Protect rod surfaces: Avoid severe collisions between cylinder rods and hard objects such as rocks during operation—scratches will directly cut the oil seals and cause oil leakage.

  • Clean rod bodies: Wipe the exposed cylinder rods with a cloth after each work shift to remove soil and corrosive substances.

  • Wiper seal inspection: External wiper seals are the first line of defense; replace them promptly if damaged or aged.

Key Tip:

If slow internal leakage of a cylinder is detected (e.g., bucket drift, arm cylinder droop), conduct maintenance immediately. Otherwise, it will lead to sluggish actuation, increased fuel consumption and system overheating.
